Gold plating

What is gold plating

Gold plated jewellery is where a thin layer of real gold covers an alternative metal making only the outer layers real gold. Here at RBCCA KSTR we only stock gold plated sterling silver. Gold plated sterling silver is safe for sensitive ears.

How to care for gold plated sterling silver.

With proper care and maintenance your gold plated jewellery will keep its lustre for years to come. Substances like oil, lotions, nail polish remover, chlorine, perfume and the like may react with plated jewellery and cause it to tarnish easily. This also can happen with sweat, so make sure you remove your jewellery before exercising and swimming.

How to clean gold plated jewellery

After you have worn your gold plated jewellery you should wipe it with a soft cloth to remove any dust or dirt it has acquired. Gently rubbing the surface of your gold plated jewellery with a soft jewellery cloth also restores shine. If your jewellery needs a more thorough clean you can soak it in warm, soapy water for a few minutes. Then gently brush your jewellery with a soft bristle brush or jewellery cloth. Stay away from jewellery cleaners and antibacterial soaps which may have certain components that will just make your gold plated jewellery tarnish quickly.

How to restore your gold plated jewellery

If your gold plated jewellery is starting to look more silver than gold it may be time to have it re-plated. Good news! We offer a free re-plating service on all RBCCA KSTR designs. So you can keep your gold bright and enjoy your jewellery for many years to come.
